Scrap Tire Recycling System

Process Description

1st Stage -Primary Reduction

Whole tires will be fed to the dual shaft rotary-shear shredder. This unit will reduce the whole tires to a variable size strip that will average 2」to 4」 in width by 6」to 8」 in length, with occasional pieces as long as 12」to 16」.

2nd Stage-Reduction to Chips

Primary shreds are then fed to the Granutech Model 80 Grizzly. This unit is a single-shaft, intermediate speed device that utilizes an internal screen to retain material in the machine until reduced to a specific size. A number of sizing screen sizes are available. In a crumb rubber system, the primary shreds are reduced to a minus 5/8」 material in the Grizzly. This reduction will allow ferrous metal from the bead and tread area to be liberated, and then magnetically separated, via a cross-belt magnet prior to further processing. This will provide a material that is up to 98% metal-free for ease of further processing. An aspiration system evacuates airborne particulate produced from dust and fiber which is then contained in a filter bag house. Material at this stage can be marketed as high quality wire-free tire derived

3rd Stage -Reduction to Granules

The minus 5/8」 chips are then fed to a walking-floor chip bin for storage. The chips are then fed to the G3 granulator via a variable speed feed screw. The G3 has several options as to screen size, such as 1/4」, 5/16」 and 3/8」. The G3 then reduces the chips to a minus 1/4」 product size. The material is removed from the G3 via vacuum pneumatics, which also serves to cool the granulator during operation. This phase of reduction provides liberation of a high percentage of fiber, as well as liberating virtually all remaining steel. Metal separation and fiber aspiration follow the G3. Material is then screened and oversized material is recirculated back to the G3 via pneumatics. Minus 1/4」 material that is virtually wire-free, is then conveyed into the powderizer-infeed storage bin or sent directly to the bagging area for packaging to go to end markets. Material at this stage can be marketed for numerous applications, including but not limited to: soil amendment, play ground material road sub-base, and some molded products applications.

4th Stage -Reduction to Fine Granules

The minus 1/4” granules are stored in a bin and fed to each powderizer via an independent feed screw. The powderizers have a number of screen options for variable product sizing. Depending upon desired end product sizing, a screen would be selected and installed into each H.O. powderizer. Once the material is reduced sufficiently it is removed from the powderizer via vacuum pneumatics and conveyed on to fiber separation where a “spalling‑screen” followed by a gravity-bed separator, each equipped with aspirators, efficiently remove the remaining fiber. The clean material is then fed to a classification screen to do final.

5th Stage - Ultra Fine Grind Module

The steel-free, fiber-free fine granules are fed to the ultra fine grind module for grinding to ultra-fine powder. The Refiner Mill reduces material to the desired end product of 40 mesh to as small as 80 mesh. Proprietary classification techniques segregate the high-value fine mesh powder and dispense each size into separate storage bins in the bagging area.

Automatic systems distribute the product to storage areas or shipping containers. Electronic scales and vibration equipment are used to meet shipping weight and density requirements to ensure product quality.
